Sketching with Mimi in London

Last week Mimi (http://mimsiaquarelles.blogspot.com) came to London for work and we decided to sketch together on Tuesday after work. We walked down to Tower Bridge and Bankside area and I decided to sketch Tower Bridge and Mimi decided on a gorgeous landscape with the Tower of London and The Gherkin. After that we had dinner at Cote Brasserie and sketched a coffee, a project that Mimi is doing - One Coffee a Day. We stayed there for almost 3 hours drawing and talking. We were very excited to be doing something that makes us happy: sketch. It's a shame that we don't live in the same city, otherwise we would go out to sketch almost every day. 

Na semana passada a Mimi (http://mimsiaquarelles.blogspot.com) veio a Londres a trabalho e nós decidimos desenhar juntas na terca-feira após o trabalho. Nós andamos até a Tower Bridge e Bankside eu eu decidi desenhar a Tower Bridge e Mimi fez uma vista maravilhosa da Tower of London e Gherkin. Depois disso fomos jantar na Cote Brasserie e desenhamos um cafe, um projeto que Mimi está fazendo - Um café por dia. Nos ficamos desenhando e conversando mais ou menos 3 horas. Estávamos muito animadas por estar fazendo uma das coisas que nos deixa mais felizes: desenhar. E uma pena que nós nao moramos na mesma cidade, senao estaríamos saindo todo dia juntas pra desenhar.

Last weekend in Venice, sketching from the bridge in front of the our hotel Ca'Vendramin at Cannaregio. This city is amazing, very beautiful and one tip is allow yourself to wander about the beautiful streets of Venice.
Our flight to London was delayed in 2 hours and we had to wait in the loung at Marco Polo Airport, so I sketched a lady that was reading her Kindle.

 

Final de semana passado em Veneza, sketching da ponte na frente do nosso hotal Ca'Vendramin em Cannaregio. Esse cidade é maravilhosa, muito bonita e uma dica é se permitir se perder pelas lindas ruas de Veneza.
Nosso vôo para Londres estava atrasado em 2 horas e nós tivemos que esperar na sala de embarque no aeroporto Marco Polo, então eu fiz um sketch de uma mulher lendo seu Kindle.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Old Fiat 500

Last year in Pisa, Italy ,we found this little old Fiat 500 in the street and I took a picture to draw later. I like the new model, but I think this is much beautiful.

 

Ano passado em Pisa, Itália, nós encontramos esse pequeno Fiat 500  modelo antigo na rua e eu tirei uma foto para desenhar depois. Eu gosto do modelo novo mas eu acho esse mais bonito.

 

 

My parent's house

I just finished this sketch today, it's the view of my parent's house in São Paulo, Brazil, from CCTV system that I can access from my computer here in London. A little bit distorted because of the camera. I grew up in this house since I was born and I have lots of good memories from this place and neighborhood.

 

Eu acabei de terminar esse desenho hoje, a vista da casa dos meus pais em São Paulo, Brasil, vista do sistema de cameras CCTV que eu consigo acessar aqui no meu computador em Londres. Está um pouco distorcido por causa da câmera. Eu nasci e cresci nessa casa e tenho muitas boas lembranças deste lugar e desse bairro.
 

 

 

 

Monteriggioni and London

It's time to post some drawings again. Last year in Tuscany we had the pleasure to visit a very beautiful medieval city in Italy called Monteriggioni with around 7800 habitants and was built in 1213. The town is architecturally and culturally significant; it hosts several piazzas, and is referenced in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.

The other drawing is a sketch of my kitchen - of course I didn't draw the big mess it was.

Já era hora de postar mais alguns desenhos. Ano passado nós tivemos o prazer de visitar uma linda cidade medieval na Itália chamada Monteriggioni que tem aproximadamente 7800 habitantes e foi construída em em 1213. A cidade é arquitetonicamente e culturalmente muito significante, possui diversas 'piazzas'e também e citada na Grande Comédia de Dante Alighieri.

O outro desenho é um sketch que fiz de minha cozinha - e claro que não desenhei a bagunça que estava como você pode ver na foto.

Drawings of my weekend

I agreed to participate in a 'blind test' of a new watercolour from a renowned international company. I received 2 sets of 4 colours each to test during 20 days. In the first two drawings I used one of the sets. The third I just used my normal Winsor & Newton watercolour.

Eu concordei em participar de um 'teste cego' de uma aquarela nova que uma renomada companhia internacional irá lançar em breve, durante 20 dias. Os 2 primeiros desenhos eu usei um desses sets. O terceiro eu usei a minha aquarela da Winsor & Newton.

This is the house of my dreams in Villafranca di Verona. It's located in front of the castle of Villafranca, very beautiful italian house. I simply fell in loved with this house and took lots of pictures of it, to one day who knows, I can buy it...

 

Esta é a casa dos meus sonhos emVillafranca di Verona. Ela está localizada na frente do castelo de Villafranca, é uma casa italiano muito linda. Eu amei esta casa então tirei várias fotos dela pra um dia quem sabe, eu possa comprá-la....

 



RWS - Royal Watercolour Society

I attended a workshop yesterday at RWS - Royal Watercolour Society at Bankside Gallery here in London. The theme of the course was 'From Sketchbook to Studio' by Michael Chaplin http://www.mikechaplin.com/.  We were in 10 people - 9 women and 1 man, plus Mike, a very dynamic teacher. He brought to class a few personal objects of J.M.W. Turner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._M._W._Turner) that he was presented from Turner's family such as natural pigments that Turner used in his paintings. He is the author of the book 'How to paint like Turner' edited by TATE Gallery. I really enjoyed this workshop and it helped me break some 'internal rules' that I have when drawing. For example, to paint directly on paper with watercolour without auxiliary lines and standing. First we went out for a 20 minutes sketching and I decided to draw St Paul's Cathedral. After painting this sketch, I reproduced the sema drawing using the wet-in-wet technique that we learned with him.

Ontem eu participei de um workshop na RWS - Royal Watercolour Society na Banskide Gallery aqui em Londres. O tema do curso foi 'Do Sketchbook ao Estúdio' ministrado por Michael Chaplin http://www.mikechaplin.com. Nós estávamos em 10 pessoas - 9 mulheres e 1 homem e com Mike, que é um professor muito dinâmico. Ele trouxe alguns objetos pessoais de J.M.W. Turner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._M._W._Turner) que ele ganhou da família do Turner como pigmentos naturais que Turner utilizava em suas composições. Ele é o autor do livro 'Como pintas como Turner' editado pela TATE Gallery. Eu gostei e aproveitei muito esse workshop que me ajudou a quebrar algumas regras internas que eu tenho quando desenho como pintar diretamente com a aquerela sem as linhas auxiliares e pintar em pé. Por exemplo nós saímos pra um rápido skecth de 20 minutos e eu decidi fazer St Paul's Cathedral. Depois de pintar este desenho eu reproduzi ele na técnica wet-in-wet que ele nos ensinou.
